You can easily add icons to the dock or remove, it's a pretty amazing desktop tweak. You should try it.

You don't have to have your icons all neatly arranged on your desktop like Windows default.



Depending on which OS you have, depends on how you turn it off, but you need to disable ';align to grid'; and the ';auto arrange';. In Vista, you right click on an empty part of your desktop, move your cursor over ';view';. You should see Align to grid and auto arrange... make sure both aren't checked. When that is done, feel free to move your icons wherever you want them to be.
