How do I change the target location for a download on a mac?

Whenever I click a download link on my mac an error message pops up, stating an unknown error has occurred. It looks like it's trying to send the downloaded file to my Garage Band instrument files folder.

Help? Best answer; etc.How do I change the target location for a download on a mac?
to change the destination for downloaded files on a download-by-download basis, Control-click the download link (or right-click it if you have a two-button mouse) and choose ';Download Linked File As...';, which will let you specify the destination for the file. to change the default destination for all future downloads, you'll need to change it in your web browser's preferences. if you're using Safari, go to the Safari menu and click Preferences..., then click the General button at the top of the Preferences window and where it says, ';Save downloaded files to,'; choose your new default destination from the pop-up menu (the Downloads folder that lives in your home folder is the default download location and probably makes the most sense; somebody's probably just mucked with that setting and changed it to something they shouldn't have).

if you're using Firefox, go Firefox -%26gt; Preferences... and click the button that says Main at the top of the Preferences window. in the second section of that pane, there's a line that says, ';Save files to'; with a text field to the right of it, and a button labeled ';Choose...'; to the right of that. click the ';Choose...'; button and in the dialog box that appears, select the folder you want your files to download to, and click ';OK.';

this should solve the problem. good luck!
